What it does
Tokei adds every giveaway entrant as a subscriber to your Kit form. Not to a generic list — to a specific form, which means its confirmation email and connected sequences fire automatically.
That's the Kit mental model: forms are entry points, and sequences are what happens after. A giveaway becomes another entry point into your creator ecosystem.
How subscribers sync
- 1Someone enters your promotion and submits their email.
- 2Tokei adds them as a subscriber to your selected Kit form.
- 3Kit's confirmation email fires (if configured on the form).
- 4Connected sequences start automatically — welcome series, course delivery, whatever you've built.
How it works
Two things from Kit: a v4 API key and the form you want entrants added to. Pick the form whose follow-up sequence matches your giveaway audience.
API Key (v4)
Kit → Settings → Developer → API Keys. Copy the v4 key — older v3 secrets won't work.
Target Form
Kit → Grow → Landing Pages & Forms. Choose or create the form entrants should land on.
Connect in your Tokei promotion settings and save. Every future entrant becomes a Kit subscriber on that form. Full walkthrough in the Kit setup docs.
Why it matters
Kit is where creators build audience. Newsletters, paid subscriptions, digital products, courses — the platform is designed around that workflow. A giveaway that feeds Kit directly turns viral attention into newsletter subscribers.
The form-based model means entrants don't just land in a list — they enter a journey you've already designed. Your welcome sequence fires. Your lead magnet delivers. The subscriber starts receiving your newsletter. All from one giveaway entry.
Forms & sequences
Kit doesn't use lists the way Mailchimp or Klaviyo does. Everything runs through forms. A subscriber joins a form, and that form triggers whatever you've connected — sequences, tags, automations.
That means the form you choose matters. Running a giveaway to grow your newsletter? Point it at your main opt-in form. Running one to promote a course? Use the form connected to your course delivery sequence.
ConvertKit → Kit rebrand
Kit was ConvertKit until 2024. The Tokei integration uses Kit's v4 API — if you still see ConvertKit branding in your dashboard, the integration works identically. Just make sure you're copying a v4 API key, not a legacy v3 secret.
Field mapping
Tokei maps entrant details onto Kit's subscriber fields:
email_addressEntrant email (required)first_nameEntrant first namefields.last_nameEntrant last name (custom field)stateactiveKit has no native last name field — Tokei writes it as a custom field. If last names aren't appearing, add a custom field named last_name in Kit → Subscribers → Custom Fields.
Common questions
My API key isn't working
Make sure you're using a v4 API key from Settings → Developer. The older v3 API secret (from the ConvertKit era) won't authenticate with Tokei.
Subscriber added but no email sent
Kit's form settings control confirmation and incentive emails. Tokei triggers the subscriber addition — Kit handles the email delivery. Check the form's own settings.
Can I use different forms for different giveaways?
Yes. Each Tokei promotion connects independently. Point your newsletter giveaway at one form, your course giveaway at another.
