Klaviyo integration

Giveaway entrants flow directly into Klaviyo as rich profiles β€” with custom properties, segment-ready data, and the context your lifecycle flows need to convert them. No exports, no delay, no data loss.

What it does

Tokei pushes every giveaway entrant into your Klaviyo list the moment they enter. Not as a bare email address β€” as a full profile with custom properties attached.

That distinction matters. Klaviyo's power lives in its segmentation engine, and segments need data to work with. A name, a source tag, a contest identifier, an entry timestamp β€” these let you slice your audience by campaign, by date, by behavior.

How profiles sync

  • 1Someone enters your promotion and submits their email.
  • 2Tokei creates or updates their Klaviyo profile with name, source, and contest metadata.
  • 3The profile is added to your selected list β€” triggering any connected flows.
  • 4Custom properties are written so you can segment these contacts immediately.

How it works

Two things from your Klaviyo account: a Private API key and a target list. The key needs write access to Lists, Profiles, and Subscriptions β€” Klaviyo's custom key scoping makes this straightforward.

Private API Key

Klaviyo β†’ Settings β†’ API Keys β†’ Create Private API Key. Grant Lists, Profiles, and Subscriptions access.

Target List

Audience β†’ Lists & Segments. Choose the list you want entrants added to, or create a dedicated one.

Paste those into your Tokei promotion settings and connect. Every entrant from that point forward lands in Klaviyo automatically. Full walkthrough in the Klaviyo setup docs.

Why it matters

If you run a DTC brand, your Klaviyo account is the center of your marketing stack. Customer journeys, post-purchase flows, win-back sequences β€” they all live there. A giveaway that doesn't feed Klaviyo is a giveaway that operates in isolation.

Real-time sync means your welcome flow fires while the entrant still remembers signing up. That timing difference β€” seconds versus days β€” is the gap between a 40% open rate and a 12% open rate.

Without the integration

  • Export a CSV after the campaign ends
  • Import into Klaviyo manually
  • Profiles lack source context and metadata
  • Welcome flow fires days late β€” or never

With the integration

  • Profiles created in real time with full properties
  • Welcome flow triggers immediately
  • Segments available from day one
  • Post-giveaway nurture starts automatically

Profile properties

Klaviyo profiles aren't just email addresses β€” they're data objects. Tokei writes useful properties onto every synced profile so your segments and flows have something to work with from the start.

last_nameEntrant last name

These properties are immediately available for segment conditions, flow filters, and dynamic email content. Build a segment for β€œeveryone from my summer giveaway” in two clicks.

Flows & segmentation

The real payoff: connecting giveaway entrants to your existing Klaviyo flows. A profile landing in a list can trigger a welcome series, a discount offer, a product education sequence β€” whatever you've built.

Because Tokei writes the contest_id and source properties, you can create conditional splits inside flows. Entrants from your product launch giveaway get one sequence. Entrants from your holiday sweepstakes get another. Same list, different journeys.

Double opt-in lists

If your Klaviyo list has double opt-in enabled, profiles won't appear as subscribed until they confirm. Flows tied to that list won't fire until confirmation completes. Consider single opt-in for giveaway lists if immediate flow triggers matter to your campaign.

Common questions

Profiles aren't appearing in my list

Verify your Private API key has Lists, Profiles, and Subscriptions scopes enabled. If the list uses double opt-in, profiles exist but won't show as subscribed until confirmed.

Will it duplicate existing profiles?

No. Klaviyo deduplicates by email address. If a profile already exists, Tokei updates it with new properties and adds it to the list β€” no duplicate created.

Can I use different lists for different promotions?

Yes. Each promotion has independent email integration settings. Point different giveaways at different lists, or use one list and segment by contest_id.

What API key scopes do I need?

Create a Private API key with write access to Lists, Profiles, and Subscriptions. The setup docs cover the exact permissions screen.
