Instagram Actions

Grow your Instagram audience with Follow, View Post and Share a Photo actions. All three are trust-based — the participant completes the action on Instagram and claims the entry when they return.

Available Actions

Follow

Send the user to your profile to follow you, with a username verification step. Takes your Instagram handle. Worth 3 points by default, and the most-used Instagram action across Tokei promotions.

View a Photo or Video

Send the user to a specific post or reel. Takes the post URL, which must be an instagram.com /p/ or /reel/ link. Worth 3 points by default.

Share a Photo

Ask participants to post a photo of their own about your campaign. You can supply suggested caption text (up to 200 characters) for them to use. Worth 5 points by default — the highest-effort Instagram action.

Setting Up an Instagram Action

Add the action from the Entry Methods tab of the promotion editor, then supply your handle or the post you want seen.

Setup

1

Open the Entry Methods tab and add an Instagram action

2

Choose Follow, View a Photo or Video, or Share a Photo

3

For Follow, enter your Instagram handle

4

For View a Photo or Video, paste the full post or reel URL — it is normalized to instagram.com on save

5

For Share a Photo, write the caption text you would like participants to use

6

Set the entry value and enable the action

Participant Experience

  • Participant clicks the button, which opens Instagram
  • They follow, view the post, or post their own photo
  • They return to your page and claim the entry

How Verification Works

Instagram actions are trust-based — points are awarded when the participant confirms they completed the action, because Instagram offers no third-party way to check a follow.

Share a Photo is the one worth reviewing. Enable manual verification on it and submissions arrive in your Verify dashboard for approval, which is how you keep a photo contest honest.

Note: use a full post URL rather than a bare shortcode. The button is built from the URL, so a row that only carries a post ID renders a button that goes nowhere.

Tips

  • Use a recognizable profile image and pin your campaign post to the top of your grid
  • Reels usually out-perform static posts for View Post actions
  • Pair Instagram actions with QR codes at events so people can act on the spot
  • For Share a Photo, give participants a hashtag so you can find their entries later
